What is the Difference Between a Hurricane and Typhoon?
The only difference between a hurricane and a typhoon is the storm’s location relative to the International Dateline. When a storm is east of the International Date Line, it is a hurricane; a storm west of the Date Line is a typhoon. If a hurricane is moving west and crosses the Date Line, its nomenclature changes to typhoon; if the typhoon moves east and crosses the IDL, it becomes dubbed a hurricane.
